The Alaska International Film Awards is currently accepting film submissions.

Each year, awards are presented to independent filmmakers from around the globe who produce original and compelling films and screenplays in several competition categories.  The Alaska International Film Awards recognizes innovative and diverse films that connect independent filmmakers' vision and the artistic process to the emerging global arts community.

Competition Winners will be announced via email, international press release, and on this website July 15, 2011.

Deadlines and Fees for Submissions

Categories of Competition


Narrative Features
Comprised of narrative feature films, this section represents the diverse aesthetics, subjects, and perspectives that constitute the vision and creativity of independent filmmakers.  Films in this category are eligible for all awards.

Documentary Features
Made up of feature-length documentary films, this section is a showcase of the best new work in nonfiction filmmaking.  Films in this category will compete for Best of Category, Jury, Kodiak, Denali, and Northern Lights Emerging Talent Awards.

Short Films
Short Films are narrative, animation, music videos or documentary films under 45 minutes. Films accepted into this category will compete for
Best of Category, Jury, Kodiak, Denali, and Northern Lights Emerging Talent Awards.

Student Films
Student Films showcase the best new work and vision of student filmmakers throughout the world. Films in this category will compete for
Best of Category, Jury, Kodiak, Denali, and Northern Lights Emerging Talent Awards.

Alaskan Films
Alaskan films are comprised of short or feature length films that showcase
the diverse aesthetics, subjects, and perspectives of Alaska.  Films in this category will compete for Alaskan, Best of Category, Jury, Kodiak, Denali, and Northern Lights Emerging Talent Awards.

Submission Rules


Submission dates listed are postmark deadlines.

All submissions are handled fairly and equally, regardless of which deadline you choose. Late submissions are screened and judged in the same manner as official submissions. However, we encourage you to submit as early as possible.

Please note that we will not view your film until your entry fee payment is received and paid in full.


The Alaska International Film Awards is an awards based competition.  Films will not be screened for the public.  Awards will be announced publicly on July 15, 2011 by Internet and international press release.  AIFA may also elect, at its sole discretion, to hold a formal Awards Ceremony in Alaska or the Pacific Northwest, United States.  Award Winners grant permission for AIFA to display clips of up to 1 minute in length of winning films during an Awards Ceremony.  It is asked that any awards received be mentioned in the promotional materials of the films being awarded.

We accept submissions in DVD and VHS. We also accept submissions in Blu-Ray. If you choose to submit your film in that format, please include a standard DVD disc as backup.

Accepted formats are NTSC, PAL, Region 1 or region free.  Please mark clearly on the disc and DVD case if format is not NTSC, Region 1 or region free.

All non-English films are required to have English subtitles.

All submissions must fill out the official entry form application, or submit online by using Withoutabox.com.  Once you finish all required fields on the official entry form, please mail it to us making sure to include
your submission.
